What is 7 for Sunday?

It’s a weekly serving of 7 things for you to savor.

On Sundays I send an email containing my reflections on interesting things I find laying about, seasoned with some quotes from my collection.

5 minutes of reading, no hooks, no guest posts. Each Sunday, the entire issue shows up in your inbox for you to savor. Why not sign up for an email you’ll look forward to getting?

Beyond this project, I advocate for open systems of collaboration, and for calm technology. I try not to put my efforts into others’ walled gardens or closed systems.

Who am I?

Hello 👋 I’m Craig Constantine.

My mission is creating better conversations to spread understanding and compassion. I want us to go from simply having conversations, to actively creating better conversations.

7 for Sunday is just one of my projects, and I hope you enjoy it.

Your support makes all the difference!

Since 2011, I’ve spent countless hours and dollars keeping my various projects going. Everything has remained free and ad-free and alive thanks to patronage from readers like you. I have no staff, no assistant… it’s just one maniac with a keyboard. If this labor of love makes your life more livable in any way, please consider directly supporting my writing.

Origins

7 for Sunday is the result of many iterations and evolutions of my online publishing. I’ve had various versions of a personal web site since 1994. The current incarnation of my blog at constantine.name was born in 2011.

I’ve been inspired by so many different people’s web sites… I’ve been steeped in the work of countless people! I should name names… but I literally don’t know how to start. Sorry, I digress… and this was already going to be long.

Discovery • Reflection • Efficacy

Those three words describe my personal practice, the journey of my whole life. As a part of my practice, my personal blog has a specific purpose: It’s a vehicle for my process of reflection. I write (on my blog, here as 7 for Sunday, and other places) because I am still learning… still trying to listen:

I used to think I wrote because there was something I wanted to say. Then I thought, “I will continue to write because I have not yet said what I wanted to say”; but I know now I continue to write because I have not yet heard what I have been listening to.

~ Mary Rueflé, from Madness, Rack, and Honey

By 2020, my personal blog was busy with many thousands of posts, with multiple posts on most days, and it was sending an email every morning.

At the start of 2021 I pivoted to try an experiment: I lined up two months of just one post per day, as a sequence intending to teach people how to be more mindful. (There’s a PDF of the entire thing.) At the end of that experiment, I shifted to sending one email a week, and I began to be more intentional about what was posted each week. This was the first glimmer of 7 for Sunday.

7 for Sunday is born

By the middle of 2022, 7 for Sunday was a solid idea. It was launched, still tucked into my blog, using a bit of Wordrpess coding to display each issue—really just 7 particular blog posts tagged as 7-for-sunday. Weekly publication began in earnest with Issue № 1 on October 9th, 2022.

If you enjoy reading any issue even half as much as I enjoyed writing them, then we’re both better off. 🙂

Cheers!
